From the Royal Botanical Gardens to the dozens of beautiful waterfalls,
Hamilton Ontario invites you and your family to come explore its beautiful landscape. Here are a few reasons to check out this stunning Canadian city.
1. Royal Botanical Gardens of Ontario
The Royal Botanical Gardens of Ontario are the largest in Canada. In the mid-1920s local Hamilton bureaucrat and politician, Thomas B. McQuesten developed the land that had once been home to an illicit gambling den, old boathouses, and an abandoned gravel pit. The chunks of land were pulled together to form 2,700-acres of green space that included untamed wilderness comprised of wetland, woods, and fallow fields. This interesting combination of soils created the basis for the Gardens and allowed for a unique garden than what might be found in other botanical settings. Located halfway between Toronto and Niagara Falls the garden is known locally as a destination for jazz and classical concerts, art shows and a series of public lectures.
2. The Waterfalls
Hamilton is home to more than 100 waterfalls of various sizes. For a listing of the falls go to cityofwaterfalls.ca
3. Arts and Entertainment
From the Art Gallery of Hamilton to the Hamilton at Aquarius Theater, there is a lot to see and experience in Hamilton. This city is rich in the arts and takes great pride in the productions and events that they produce. In addition, the city is home to a top-notch symphony orchestra, several cultural arts festivals, a number of independent art galleries, an annual Literature festival, and a number of museums, including the Canadian Football Hall of Fame & Museum.
4. The Vibe of the City
The downtown area is happening and full of shops, but it is some of the surrounding neighborhoods that offer a more quirky and quaint experience. If you like small boutiques, great architecture, and fun dining options, check out the areas on the edge of the city.
5. Location! Location! Location!
If you really want to explore the larger cities of Toronto and Niagara Falls, but do not want to pay the hotel and dining prices that come along with those cities, Hamilton is a great alternative. You get to have all the charm of the city without the price tag that often comes along with it.
