Nestled away on a quiet lot overlooking the harbor of Ships Cove in Newfoundland is 4.5 star Inn named the Fisher’s Loft. The Inn got its unique start in 1989 when the owners purchased a small saltbox building in Port Rexton that was meant to serve as their family’s summer home. After spending a summer fishing, whale watching and taking advantage of the nature of the island, the family relocated there permanently.
In 1997, the family decided to open a B&B in part of their home. They allocated four rooms that were part of an extension of the original home to use for quests and quickly found that they were unable to keep up with the demand for the rooms. When they realized that during the course of the year they were turning away more clients than they were housing, the family made the decision to add purchase two additional buildings nearby. Those structures included among other things, eight suites, a dining room, kitchen, library, garden, and greenhouse.
Every time the couple added additional rooms as a means of meeting the demand for bookings, they found that they were still unable to keep up with the demand from potential customers. The couple continued to add more rooms, acquire additional buildings and the end result is an inn that is now made up of thirty-three rooms and suites, an executive conference center, dining room, bar, library/sitting room. The three structures that make up the Inn are all second generation saltbox structures that were constructed around Trinity Bay from 1865-1920.
The buildings sit on a hillside that is part forest and part meadow, making them an idyllic place for those who are seeking a quiet getaway surrounded by nature. Blueberry bushes border the footpaths that connect the buildings on the Inn’s 14-acre property. In addition, the family has strategically placed chairs throughout the property for guests who wish to enjoy quiet moments of contemplation.
The Inn has been consistently ranked as one of the top spots on the island. Their rates vary depending on the time of year, the number of nights, and the number of people in your traveling party. To learn more about all that this beautiful Inn has to offer, go to fishersloft.com.
